A Fuzzy Logic-Based Risk Assessment Tool for IT Startups

In the rapidly evolving field of IT startups, managing risks is crucial for success. Traditional risk assessment methods often fall short in addressing the dynamic and uncertain nature of startup environments. This paper introduces a novel fuzzy logic-based tool for risk assessment specifically tailored to Agile development processes in IT startups. This aims to enhance the Agile principle of adaptability and responsiveness, providing a systematic approach to manage risks associated with product development and team dynamics. Our research methodology began with a literature review, establishing a theoretical background. We developed the fuzzy based tool by incorporating input variables representing key Agile roles: Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Development Team. Fuzzy logic evaluates risks for each sprint, supported by simulations and scenario analyses. It demonstrated a high degree of responsiveness to changes within the development process, enabling precise risk estimation and efficient task distribution across sprints. The inclusion of fuzzy logic allowed for a nuanced approach to risk assessment, addressing the limitations of traditional methods in the Agile context. The proposed fuzzy logic-based tool’s ability to adapt to the unique challenges of startup environments makes it a valuable tool for practitioners seeking to navigate the complexities of product development and team management in the Agile framework.
