Decoding the Effect of Descriptive Statistics on Informed Decision-Making

Understanding the influence of descriptive statistics, especially their graphical representation, on informed decision-making is the focus of this study. The study comprehensively explores the relationship between descriptive statistics and decision-making processes, running a systematic literature review through Scopus and Elicit tools. The findings decode how the graphical representation of data impacts decision-making, shedding light on its significance and potential pitfalls. This study provides insights valuable for practitioners and decision-makers, highlighting implications for future research. The analysis represents an initial step, but the findings offer valuable insights into the role of descriptive statistics in decision-making, particularly in Engineering. With their simplicity, interpretability, and graphical techniques, descriptive statistics facilitate informed decision-making, although further research is needed to understand their influence fully. Despite limitations, the findings underscore the critical role of descriptive statistics in decision-making, both in establishing context and guiding the process.
