The Systematic Sustainable Business Model (SBM) Approach—A Flexible Organizational Tool

Due to current environmental and societal changes there is a growing urgency in studying organizational conduct from a sustainability perspective. In this chapter the Systematic Sustainable Business Model (SBM) approach is devloped which allows for depicting to what extent an organization is involved in a variety of environmental, social, and economic sustainability related activities. Each sustainability activity is scrutinized against value being created, delivered, and captured. The understanding is that an organization simultaneously can be involved in sustainability activities that create, deliver and capture value for and with a variety of stakeholders, resulting in an intricate co-creation system of give-and-take and pay-it-forward. The presented Systematic SBM approach encompass a flexible organizational tool that allows for mapping of an organization´s sustainability conduct, following progress over time, and comparisons between different organizations.
