Abortion in Goats: Differential Diagnosis
摘要
This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of abortion in goats, encompassing definitions, infectious and non-infectious causes, diagnostic procedures, and herd-level management. Key microbial agents such as Chlamydia abortus, Brucella melitensis, and Toxoplasma gondii are discussed alongside non-infectious factors like nutritional deficiencies, pharmaceuticals, hybrids, and environmental toxins. The diagnostic protocol includes systematic examination of herd animals (male and female), aborted fetuses, placentas, and newborns, supported by laboratory sampling. Particular attention is given to abortion timing, zoonotic risks, and herd records. The chapter concludes with a focus on prevention strategies and the economic impact of reproductive failure in goats.
