Estrus synchronization in ewes is a reproductive management technique that consists of manipulating either the luteal or follicular phase of reproductive cycle to induce or control the timing of estrus and ovulation. This reproductive manipulation is mainly achieved through conventional hormonal protocols based on the progestogen administration to sensibilize the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axe, prostaglandin F2alpha to cause luteolysis of potential corpora lutea and equine chorionic gonadotrophin to promote follicular development. The implementation of strategies to synchronize estrus enhances the use of artificial insemination at a fixed time or natural mating, concentrating work and labor costs.
