An Exploration on Creative Approach of Animated Short Films Using Traditional Crafts as Media by Expert Analysis Method

Traditional crafts are full of stories, coupled with the imagination and creativity of creators, which are quite suitable for animation media. This study conducted semi-structured interviews with six experts, to analyzed the timing and techniques, roles, camera moves, transitions, dubbing, incidental music, and other techniques used in the scripts of animation using traditional crafts. On narrative structure: 1. The introduction of traditional craft elements into the time point, the better time point is approximately one-fourth or one-eighth of the first act of the three-act play. 2. All experts have agreed that family affection is indeed easy to play in the theme of inheritance such as traditional crafts, but it is not limited to between parents and children, and grandparents and grandchildren across generations are also common elements. 3. There were different views on dubbing in the industry and academia. Industry experts encouraged the creators to feel the intimacy and sense of substitution. However, academic teachers hoped that students could learn to use plot and picture arrangement to tell the story. On formal techniques of animation: 1. In terms of camera moves, most of the traditional craft animation types have a gentle rhythm, and rarely uses dynamic camera moves. 2. In terms of transition, it is easier to use the transition mode of line deformation, or the transition with switches between shape, position, virtual and real, which can deepen the audience’s impression of traditional crafts. 3. Unless the animation is related to the theme of traditional musical instruments, the incidental music does not necessarily need to use traditional musical instruments.
