Framework for Securing Biometric Authentication System Using InterPlanetary File System and Blockchain Technology

The keystones of the digital ecosystem are secure access control and stable identity verification but these two parts also have vulnerabilities. While biometric authentication seems more dependable than other authenticating system, it also has its own complications and challenges over the secure storehouse of data. This research study introduces a new state-of-the-art solution by integrating IPFS and Blockchain technology. Each captured biometric sample is converted into a unique hash value via the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) as the data integrity and redundancy are controlled in this way. All these hash values are safely stored on a private blockchain, which cannot be altered by any person or association. For verifying users’ identity, new biometric information is recorded before storing it in temporary format; that way one can retake a fresh ID every time with an interactive smart contract, performing as a neutral arbitrator, which handles the comparison. The verification process is completely transparent and secure for the users. The end result is the unique combination of IPFS, blockchain, and smart contracts, which quickly tracks the development of a stable biometric authentication structure, which reduces the threats of data storehouse and enhances the effectiveness, transparency and certainty with which end-user deals can be authenticated.
