摘要

The connection of ethics, AI (Artificial intelligence), and healthcare promises both enormous opportunities and a maze of complex ethical dilemmas. We unravel these complications in this chapter, using Explainable AI (XAI) as a compass for negotiating the moral setting of AI in healthcare. The benefits of AI in healthcare are explored in this chapter, including improved outcomes for patients as well as more effective medical practices. However, the underlying algorithms of AI models sometimes act as “black boxes,” making it tough for medical practitioners to understand and trust the recommendations rendered by these advanced systems. To address this issue, the chapter presents Explainable AI (XAI), which provides accessible explanations that clarify the reasoning behind conclusions drawn using AI. By bridging the knowledge gap between technological complexity and human comprehension, XAI enables healthcare practitioners to contextualize and validate AI's recommendations and make well-informed treatment decisions. The chapter also discusses the moral dilemmas and equity challenges that arise when artificial intelligence is integrated into essential medical operations. It raises attention to the importance of ethical AI in healthcare, a moral choice with a foundation of justice, accountability, and transparency that transcends technology.
