Seeing the Performance

This chapter considers the audience’s experience of seeing an integrated production by reviewing four case studies: Spring Awakening, ASL Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Music Man, and Angels in America, Part 1: Millennium Approaches. Various questions are considered, such as: What artistic choices are successful in the telling of the story for both deaf and hearing audiences and why? What artistic choices fall short and why? What approaches to providing communication access for deaf and hearing audiences are successful and why? What access choices fall short and why?
