摘要

This chapter focuses on the pre-audition planning period that begins the artistic process. It covers topics such as working with a deaf and hearing directing team and various models for how that relationship may function; creating an initial production concept that is inclusive of team members and accessible for audiences; involving the design team starting with the first production meeting; and setting up ASL interpreters for communication access. The chapter delves deep into creating the initial concept for a production of Angels in America, Part 1: Millennium Approaches. The chapter also expands on the role of the director of artistic sign language (DASL), provides key considerations in designing for integrated productions, and discusses strategies for incorporating design elements in a cohesive and inclusive manner. The chapter ends by returning to Millennium Approaches to discuss how the production team approached various designs for the show.
