KMIBridge: Kinemetrics’ Journey to a Comprehensive Bridge Management Platform

This paper presents a novel platform for assessment and management of a large number of bridges by combining advanced inspection and testing techniques, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), and digital twinning. The overall aim of this approach is to develop an SHM platform that will effectively monitor the safety and reliability of bridge infrastructure in a big metropolis. On a general level, the results of this project will lead to an increase in public safety; however, an important ingredient of the project is the intention to reduce life cycle costs of bridge maintenance. For this reason, this project pays special attention to asset management that is supported by designated SHM and digital twin technologies. Moreover, this project takes into account the ways the proposed platform can be applied for two types of possible scenarios: regular SHM as well as the examination following sudden disaster events, such as earthquakes.
