Analyzing Exergy Losses When Utilizing the Heat of Exhaust Gases in Boiler

The operating efficiency of the ship power plant (SPP) largely depends not only on the perfection of the processes occurring in its elements, but also on the degree of utilization of heat lost with exhaust gases and coolants. The aim of research is to analyze the effect of exergy losses, when using the available heat of exhaust gases in the exhaust gas boiler (EGB). A methodology was presented for analyzing the influence of ambient and exhaust gas temperatures on the values of exergy losses when using the available heat of exhaust gases in EGB. The mathematical dependencies were obtained that make it possible to determine the relationship between the operating conditions of the SPP and the parameters of each coolant. The exergy losses, when using the available heat of exhaust gases in the EGB was analyzed. Analysis of calculation results showed increasing a specific steam production and entropy of gases with decreasing the temperature in the outlet of EGB from 160°С to 90°С. It is possible to obtain comprehensive characteristics of the available boiler performance basing on the results of measuring the operating parameters of the boiler only in one mode.
