摘要

This chapter examines published research on history education in Africa from 2013 to 2023. Literature for the systematic scoping review was drawn from Education Resource Information Center (ERIC) and Google Scholar databases. In total, 10,069 search results were obtained across three separate searches in the two databases. After screening, 58 journal articles written in English and related to history education in schools were included in the final analysis. Leximancer software was used to extract the key themes across journal articles, and manual analysis was carried out to determine the journals in which most of the research was published and the countries that produced the most research. Five key themes emerged across the articles—‘history’, ‘curriculum’, ‘national’, ‘education’, and ‘textbooks’. Also, South Africa produced the most research, and Yesterday & Today journal was the most popular destination for history education research in Africa. Implications of these findings for history education research are discussed.
