Single-Sided Deafness (SSD) Hearing Aids: Airway Hearing Aids, Bone Conduction Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implant Electrical Stimulation
摘要
In this chapter, we will describe the different treatment options for patients with unilateral (cophotic) severe-profound sensorineural hearing loss with normal contralateral hearing, also known as single-sided deafness (SSD) [1–3]. SSD is estimated to affect between 12 and 27 people per 100,000 inhabitants of the general population. Most SSD cases that appear abruptly in adults are after a case of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL) that has not improved [4], highlighting the consequences of having monaural hearing.
