Application of Participatory Design in the Development of a Front-End for an AI-Based Decision Support System with Two Companies

This study explores the application of Participatory Design (PD) in the development of a frontend system, involving collaboration between designers and end-users. The methodology emphasizes user involvement throughout the design process, encompassing requirement analysis, evaluation, and active participation in design creation. This is realized by the steps of an information event, a GUI-Workshop, and a survey ensuring the involvement of the user in the design process. While feedback from two participating companies indicates a positive reception of the approach, the lack of a comparative study restricts definitive conclusions regarding its impact on user attitudes and system usage. Consequently, to validate our findings, we therefore recommend further comparable studies.
