The Impact of Correlated Colour Temperature on Physiological Responses, Task Precision and Subjective Satisfaction in a Simulated Node3 Aft Cabin of the Space Station

This study investigated the impact of different Correlated Color Temperatures (CCT) on task accuracy, Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), emotional responses, and task load in a simulated Node3 aft port cabin environment. Findings indicated that higher CCT levels (6500K) significantly enhanced task accuracy, physiological arousal (as indicated by GSR), positive emotional states, and reduced task load, suggesting a pivotal role of CCT in optimizing environmental conditions for improved performance and well-being in space habitats. The use of high-fidelity simulations, though not entirely replicating the microgravity conditions of space, provided valuable insights into the potential benefits of CCT adjustments in space station lighting design. Future research is recommended to explore the long-term effects of CCT on crew health and performance in microgravity, employing a longitudinal study design to further validate these findings and contribute to the design of habitable space environments.
