The Effect of Color on Responsiveness in the Interactive Interface of the Space Station Alerting Task (SSAT)

This study evaluates the effect of warning colors of different hues, brightness, and saturation on human color perception performance by conducting a space system fault alarm color keystroke experiment with 80 subjects and testing 30 warning color samples with reaction time and correctness as the interactive interface color perception performance evaluation indices. The results showed that the individual independent variables (hue, brightness, saturation) all had significant effects on the subjects’ reaction time (p = 0.000 < 0. 05), and there was no significant effect on the accuracy rate; in the multiple comparisons by hue, there was a significant difference in the comparison of reaction time between the hues H = 0 and H = 20, and between the hues H = 20 and H = 340; in the multiple comparisons by brightness, there were significant differences; and in saturation, significant differences were observed between all three saturation levels (40%, 70%, and 100%). In conclusion, this study provides information for the color design of interactive interfaces for future spacecraft such as space stations.
