False Positives
摘要
The 2007 movie Juno begins with 16-year-old Juno MacGuff taking a pregnancy test and declaring, “God, that little pink plus sign is so unholy.” Explaining her conundrum to Rollo the store clerk, Juno says: “I think the first one was defective. The plus sign looks more like a division symbol, so I remain unconvinced.” Juno wants the test to show a positive sign for pregnancy without her actually being pregnant. Juno needs a false positive. But pregnancy tests cannot be “defective,” can they?
