Conclusion

This chapter draws our arguments together to provide an overarching picture of how societies engineer high levels of vaccine coverage, as well as the central challenges or limitations that threaten high levels of uptake. Furthermore, we examine the benefits of the conceptual approach that we have adopted in this book and offer a clear example of the significance that this broader social and political analysis of vaccines holds for continued analysis of the specific problem of vaccine hesitancy. This chapter therefore offers an analysis of the interconnections between critical public views commonly examined by social scientists, and the social and political components of the broader (and initially seemingly unconnected) workings of the immunisation social order and the actors that comprise it which we have examined in Vaccines in Society.
