Indications and Contraindications

This chapter describes specific clinical indications for the use of IO infusion in the resuscitation of critically ill patients, as well as specific relative and absolute contraindications for its use. The authors will explore the limitations of the existing medical literature relevant to these recommendations, including a discussion on how these recommendations relate to special populations of emergency care patients who commonly receive intraosseous vascular access.
