A New Model for a New Nation
摘要
The most significant event in Scottish theatre in the twenty-first century has undoubtedly been the establishment of the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS). This chapter offers an explication of the campaign for the NTS and the precise circumstances that led to the new company being constituted in its innovative virtual and ‘buildingless’ form. The NTS will be understood as a specifically Scottish solution to a Scottish cultural problem and as reflecting Scotland’s newfound cultural confidence. Particular attention will be given to the company’s inaugural season in 2006 and to its international touring work.
