Other Stages

With the impetus towards international engagement in mind, this chapter traces the emergence of a number of innovative and experimental performance companies, venues and festivals. Beginning with a discussion of Untitled Projects’ Paul Bright’s Confessions of a Justified SinnerUntitled Projects (2013) it looks back to consider the particular circumstances that led to the development of a strong experimental theatre scene in Scotland, and particularly in Glasgow. Companies under discussion include Suspect Culture, Grid Iron and Vanishing Point and the significance of venues such as Tramway, the Arches and the Centre for Contemporary Arts is also considered, as is the National Review of Live Art, and other festivals of live and performance art.
