Understanding the basics of CT physics principles allows us to acquire CT images that most efficiently use contrast and radiation to optimize image quality. Non-contrast (calcium) scans have specific protocols in place based on the studies that initially validated them clinically. Contrast scans can be optimized by taking advantage of principles discussed in prior chapters, and will be highlighted here. Contrast administration and scan timing are also emphasized, and are key testable concepts.
