摘要

The Black Church has a long history of attending to the social needs of its community. In this chapter, five ministers of churches located in the Appalachian region of North Carolina describe their activism to address social, cultural, environmental, and political needs of their congregations and surrounding communities. The narratives in this chapter illustrate the ways in which these ministers are addressing social determinants of health in lieu of limited access to major academic institutions and healthcare centers. Further, these churches are generally geographically located in resource-poor communities.
