Prevalence and Characteristics of Developmental Trauma Among Offenders

  • Karla Sapp

摘要

Developmental trauma refers to traumatic experiences that occur during childhood or adolescence and have a lasting impact on an individual’s development. This chapter will examine the prevalence and characteristics of developmental trauma among offending populations. It will delve into studies highlighting prevalence rates, discuss the long-term effects of developmental trauma on cognitive, emotional, and social functions, explore the connection between developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), including abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, and finally, address how race, ethnicity, and socio-economic factors influence the relationship between trauma and offending.
