Natural Coloring Agents in Raising Awareness of Indonesian Textile Industry Sustainability and the Role of Corporate Social Responsibility: Health and Environmental Aspects

The textile industry is very important for human life because clothing and textiles are one of the basic human needs besides food and shelter. Humans need clothes to maintain their survival, from hot and cold weather conditions and for personal protection. However, with the development of technology and fashion, besides the main purposes above, clothing and textiles have also become an art for humans. One form of art here is using various dyes in the textile industry. Unfortunately, these synthetic dyes negatively affect the environment and living creatures, including humans. It has spurred the return of textile coloring to nature, namely by using natural dyes that are environmentally friendly and safer for health. In this chapter, emphasis is given on how corporate social responsibility (CSR) can play a very important role in influencing textile SME industries in Indonesia to encourage the use of natural dyes in their business processes, besides also discussing possible sources of natural coloring agents, how to extract natural coloring agents and the advantages of natural coloring for the environment and the health of living creatures.
