Late Classic Cities of the Maya

The later Maya development includes many lesser known cities, such as Tula, known for its architecture and monolithic statues, and Bonampak which contains the only monumental painting program to survive from the late Classic period. In fact, the murals are the finest example in the Maya world. The incredibly well-preserved, polychrome frescoes decorating the three temple rooms illustrate royal court life that includes military victories, musical celebrations and astronomical information.
