Maya City of Copan

A wealthy and powerful city, Copan is noted especially for its majestic pyramids, monumental temples and numerous engraved stelae. Copan’s distinctive decoration style adorned their architecture with outstanding sculpted artwork and ja huge number of hieroglyphic texts. The city was well located for its key position as a trade center, important for its nearby sources of jade and obsidian. Scholars consider Copan’s most famous building, Temple 22, a masterpiece of Maya creativity.
