VR-Enhanced Teleoperation System for a Semi-autonomous Mulitplatform All-Terrain Exploration Vehicle

This paper presents a research on the integration of a virtual reality (VR) enhanced teleoperation system within the semi-autonomous multi-platform all-terrain exploration vehicle (MAEV). The main objective is to improve the operator’s control and situational awareness when exploring difficult terrain. The methodology includes an in-depth analysis of the MAEV project, describing the configuration of the teleoperation system and careful VR integration processes. In the section on system development and implementation, the details of the step-by-step construction of the VR-based teleoperation system and the MAEV vehicle are explained. This includes the careful selection of VR hardware, the harmonization of VR with the control systems of the MAEV, and the resolution of challenges encountered during the integration process. The key findings highlight the benefits of the VR system, such as increased immersion for operators, improved precision in remote control, increased safety through remote operation in hazardous environments and the potential for realistic training and simulation scenarios. These findings contribute significantly to the further development of teleoperation systems, especially in the context of all-terrain vehicles.
