The Matrix Resurrections: Love Outlives Death

This chapter focuses on 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections. Directed by Lana Wachowski (Lilly Wachowski had time conflicts with another project) it has Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity, with a re-cast Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), and a re-cast Smith (Jonathan Groff), as well as several new characters. This film follows a resurrected Neo and Trinity as they try to reconnect in an updated/rebooted matrix. In Resurrections we meet a significantly older Neo and Trinity. Neo, being addressed by his ‘human’ name, Thomas A. Anderson, is in psychotherapy, on a regimen of ‘blue’ pills—the pill that is taken to remain within the dreamworld of the Matrix. This chapter will also examine the locations of the movies. The physical city of The Matrix and the subsequent movies is a dark, weird, and altered version of the city of Chicago, while Resurrections takes place mostly in San Francisco.
