Technology for Automatic Usability Evaluation Using Model Driven Engineering

User interfaces are key to application quality and acceptance. Manual usability evaluation the final stages of development is time consuming and resource intensive. Model Driven Engineering streamlines development by relying on models and transformations, facilitating early systematic usability evaluation. MERODE, an object-oriented Model Driven Engineering-based analysis methodology, abstracts domain modeling from technological specifications. FENIkS, a MERODE-associated tool, enables co-designing application and user interface models. This paper presents a procedure and tool leveraging FENIkS’s presentation model to automatically evaluate usability, shortening development time and enhancing application quality. The tool allows correcting usability issues in user interfaces during the modelling step and feedback is provided on detected errors.
