Design Framework for Building Smart Shopping Stores Using IoT

The advancement in the electronics industry in conjunction with wired and wireless communication technologies, has resulted in an immense growth in electronic commerce (e-commerce) in recent years. These days, shopping and making purchases at various shopping premises have become a daily pastime. Improving the experience of shoppers during these shopping endeavors can have a positive impact on individual shopping patterns and in turn, can result in further revenue growth. To this end, this work focuses on the design and development of a low-cost, reliable, and standalone solution with a simple installation procedure that can be used for shopping, inventory management, and security needs. The system specifically assists diverse range of shoppers in making decisions about their spending when choosing the items, thereby dynamically changing their shopping cart while they shop. The overall automated system will also ensure an easy checkout process and security and theft management system at shopping venues.
