An Automatic Process of Online Handwriting Recognition and Its Challenges

Online Handwriting Recognition (OHR) has been proven as best alternative against keystroke pattern input. During this process of OHR, input stroke patterns are captured with the help of stylus and digitizer environment. Pen up and Pen down events in continuation results in ink strokes. These ink strokes may have some uneven shapes. Sometime these uneven shapes cannot be compared further with the standards well known shapes. This leads to the biggest challenge while recognition of these stroke patterns. In this paper, the automatic process of OHR is explained by focusing on the challenging issues like identification of uneven shapes, script recognition, character segmentation, word segmentation etc. The main emphasis is given over writer independent and open vocabulary systems.
