Towards Alternative Energy Ship’s Design: Sensors’ Energy Efficiency in Switchgears

This paper addresses the possibilities of energy savings aboard ships. It deals with part of electrical equipment, switchboard sensors in particular. Parameters that influence dissipation of the energy are linked to mass and volume of key sensors parts. The overall switchboard improvements are analyzed for two configurations. These changes yielded the following results: 97% improvement in weight and 90% improvement in volume for the configuration of switchboard with separate sensors. For the configuration with combined sensors, improvement in mass is 86%, and in volume 76%.
