Strategic Pathways to Net Zero by 2050: Vietnam's Adoption of South Korea's Policies

This research conducts an in-depth analysis of Vietnam's strategies to reach the Net Zero target by 2050, contrasting them with South Korea's more established methods. It employs a comprehensive approach that includes a literature review, interviews with experts, and data analysis, all tailored to enhance Vietnam's climate policy framework. These findings highlight South Korea's success in emission reduction and clean technology adoption, serving as a model for Vietnam. The urgency for Vietnam to reform its climate strategy is apparent, as the research advocates for a robust legal framework, comprehensive sectoral integration, and a focus on transparent, equitable policy development. Vietnam's revised strategy should be underpinned by a sturdy legal system and encompassing planning that considers its economic growth, social fairness, and energy transitions, with bespoke strategies for emission cuts and carbon sequestration. The research suggests that Vietnam engages more in international cooperation, especially in carbon markets, to access global financial and technology resources. It also calls for regular policy reviews to adapt to technological and scientific developments. The study stresses the importance of setting transparent and equitable climate goals to ensure stakeholder support and the durability of climate policies. These strategic recommendations are geared towards guiding Vietnam on a path to a sustainable, low-carbon future by 2050, in line with international climate objectives.
