Supply Chain Research: Overview of Joint Work

This chapter describes how Hau Lee and I have embraced the most challenging operations problems. We have worked with industry leaders such as Booz Allen, IBM, General Motors/Saturn, Boeing, and Hewlett Packard, who manage large scale, global supply chain networks. We have found that the solutions we developed can be relevant to many firms. We also used the experience of working with these companies to motivate our research. Model formulations, solution strategies, data sources, test sites and more, all flowed from these projects. Real-world problems have defined our research agenda. More importantly, we formed a strong bond as friends and co-authors.
