摘要

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifetime neurodevelopmental disorder comprising social communication and language. In evaluating the reading ability of ASD peers, it is crucial to comprehend their cognitive load and task performance. Eye tracking technology allows researchers to identify, measure and analyse eye gaze and fixation during reading tasks, which provide user experiences, patterns of attention, visual search behaviour, and cognitive workload during the evaluation. The objectives of this study are to access the eye gaze pattern of reading tasks such as difficulties in tracking text, maintaining attention, and comprehending complex words by implementing Visual-Auditory-Kinaesthetic-Tactile (VAKT) sensory assessment using Tobii T60 Eye’s Tracker for ASD peers. The eye gaze of five Typical Cognitively Normal (TCN) peers and five ASD peers was evaluated using the eye tracker device. Selected reading materials in video format aided with instruction of reading materials were displayed and monitored. The results are tabulated in a table showing that TCN peers have a more acute eye gaze fixation point than ASD peers. It is proven that ASD peers have difficulties tracking text, maintaining attention, and comprehending complex words. Eye gaze fixation decreases gradually, indicating that the rate of concentration decreases because of intricate terms. This study will contribute to significant works for developing ASD peers reading and learning aid to enhance cognitive load and task performance. The results of reading pattern analysis will also support the development of an artificial intelligence-based reading technology model, notably autism, by integrating human factors and ergonomics principles. Personalising reading aid to enhance reading experiences, comprehension, and engagement.
