Factors Health Problem Towards Working Environment Among E-Hailing Drivers During Pandemic COVID-19 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Driving an e-hailing vehicle is a high-risk profession that can end in death in the event of an accident. The purpose of this study was to discover factors that contributed to health problems in the workplace during the COVID-19 pandemic among e-hailing drivers in Johor, Malaysia. A cross-sectional study was undertaken, with a sample size of 262 e-hailing drivers from Johor Bahru participating. Purposive sampling was used in the study to cover e-hailing services (economy groups) registered with the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), car conditions that have not been modified, and more than one year of experience. Data was collected via a self-administered questionnaire and driving observation via video. SPSS 20.0 was used to analyze the data using the Chi-square method. There is a significant relationship between taking a break once a week, frequency of carrying passengers per day, carrying load passengers, the COVID-19 phenomenon of choosing to be e-hailing drivers, the COVID-19 income effect, working late at night during COVID-19, the past 12 months, and the last seven days of experiencing back discomfort. During the seating position, the lower back was the most unpleasant. Smoking (X2 = 0.019, p = 0.889) has been investigated as a risk factor for MSDs and LBP in e-hailing drivers. Furthermore, e-hailing drivers are encouraged to adopt ergonomics to increase work productivity. Low ergonomics knowledge and awareness may reflect the quality of life and health among e-hailing drivers in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. To better understand safety and a healthy working environment for a higher quality of life, additional research should encompass all e-hailing industries in Malaysia’s region.
