摘要

Aging is accompanied by the senescence of various cellular lines, including those related to the functioning of the immune system. Therefore, the dysregulation of the immune system in late life might explain the development of connective tissue diseases (CTDs) like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs), Sjögren’s syndrome (SS), and systemic sclerosis (SSc) in the elderly, and the fact that autoimmune diseases that occur more frequently in younger individuals can also arise in the elderly, sometimes with atypical manifestations.
