Surfactant (CTAB)-Modified Composite Electrodes for Electrochemical Determination of Drugs

摘要

Surfactants are a class of substances that are known to reduce surface tension at the carbon paste electrode (CPE) interface. We see an increase in surface area and the presence of electroactive sites by making use of their adsorption properties. They can therefore be used to change the electrode surface and its properties to promote quicker electron transfer kinetics. Because of these characteristics, electrodes that have been altered to include surfactants have been used to detect several significant medications, including diclofenac, acetaminophen, and ciprofloxacin. Among all the electrode kinds, connecting surfactants to CPE has several benefits, such as minimal toxicity, affordability, simplicity in upkeep, and fabrication. Furthermore, the hydrophobic surface of the carbon paste, when combined with silicon oil, makes it easier to apply surfactants to the electrode surface conveniently. Consequently, this encourages the development of an electrode surface with an improved surface area. Thus, in the context of electrochemical drug sensing, the current article describes the adsorption mechanism and the function of surfactants at the CPE.
