Die Vorgeschichte und die Gründung des mathematisch-physikalischen Seminars an der Universität Göttingen (1850)

At the suggestion of the mathematician Moritz Stern, a mathematics-physics seminar was established at the University of Göttingen in 1850. In its conception the Göttingen seminar was based on the model of the seminar founded in Halle in 1839, but it was also strongly influenced by the critical remarks of Carl Friedrich Gauss. This article presents the prehistory and the history of the foundation of the seminar.
