Concept of Transmission as a Bipolar Process: The Case of the Formation of a Mathematical Community in Brazil
摘要
The concept of “transmission” is quite used in the general historiography of science, mostly in the first half of the twentieth century, and has been understood in this context like a process used to understand how scientific ideas and practices have been taken between two cultures, one of them considered the emitting pole and the other the receptor pole. This notion has been used with the intention to study how scientific accomplishments are disseminated between different cultures.
