Causal Understanding

After these rather theoretical considerations on the cognitive components of tool use, let us now turn to some experiments that have been used to test them. The most studied abilities are causal understanding and planning. Both are considered important not only for creative, flexible tool use but also as forms of understanding and thinking that are most distinct from trial-and-error learning.
