摘要

Phytoremediation, a green and sustainable technology, utilizes plants to remediate various environmental contaminants. In recent years, nanotechnology has revolutionized this field by offering novel solutions to enhance the efficiency and scope of phytoremediation processes. This review explores the applications of nanotechnology in phytoremediation, focusing on the innovative approaches and nanomaterials employed. Nanoparticles, including metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, carbon-based nanomaterials, and engineered nanocomposites, are harnessed to improve plant–microbe interactions, increase nutrient uptake, and augment the degradation of diverse pollutants. We delve into the mechanisms underlying these interactions, emphasizing the role of nanoparticles in enhancing plant stress tolerance and mitigating environmental stressors. Furthermore, we discuss the challenges associated with nanotechnology applications in phytoremediation, including toxicity concerns and ethical considerations. Despite these challenges, the synergistic integration of nanotechnology and phytoremediation holds tremendous promise in addressing complex contaminant mixtures and emerging pollutants. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advancements, current challenges, and future prospects in the application of nanotechnology to optimize phytoremediation processes, thereby paving the way for more effective and sustainable environmental cleanup strategies.
