Other Techniques for Oxidative Stress Assessment

In this chapter, we describe a battery of techniques used for oxidative stress assessment including Western blot, capillary electrophoresis, COMET assay, PCR, and flow cytometry. Each technique is devoted to the qualitative and quantitative determination of particular metabolic products of oxidative stress (OS). The recently developed ultrasound, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) (metabolomics), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques as well as Raman spectroscopy in order to measure reactive species (RS) and oxidation products are also presented. New topics presented in this chapter include phosphorescence and the exciting new area of OS assessment using nanoparticles (NPs) and photoluminescence.
