Exploring the Potential of Smart Mobile Devices for the Long-Term Promotion of Transdisciplinary, Interdisciplinary, and Transversal Scientific Competences in STEM Education

This article explores the potential of smart mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) to promote transdisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transversal scientific competences in STEM educationEducation. The article focuses on the integration of content taught in different subjects and the potential role of smart mobile devices in fostering collaboration between teachers and students. The methodology includes a combination of reference analysis and the authors’ experience with computer and smartphone-based labs. The results of the study show that smartphones can promote a range of competences, as follows: Collecting, analysing and organising information, Communication of ideas and information, Planning and organising activities, Working with others in teams, Use of mathematical ideas and techniques, Problem solving, and Use of technology.
