Conclusion: Right Ways of Meeting, Their Naming and Mapping

  • Paul Carter

摘要

Chapter 8 reviews the argument of the preceding chapters, differentiating creative toponymic decolonisation from critical and etymological toponomy. Emphasis is placed on the process and context of place renaming decision making. The author’s outsider, migrant position is acknowledged as a factor. On this basis it is suggested that place may be reconceptualised as a potential space of meeting and exchange, more resembling a journey than a fixed location. To encompass this possibility other modes of mapping may be needed, both graphic and poetic.
