Epithelial Ingrowth

Epithelial ingrowth refers to the migration of surface epithelial cells under the corneal flap after a surgical procedure. Following LASIK, this condition is considered a postoperative complication rather than a result of intraoperative implantation of epithelial cells. Mild cases can often be monitored; however, more severe cases may require treatment. This treatment involves mechanically removing the epithelium from the back of the corneal flap and the stromal bed, as well as ensuring that the flap is properly aligned with the bed.
