This study examines an evolving process transforming Hanoks and Riads architecture in the twenty-first century regarding habitability quality and social transition. Nowadays, the newfound lifestyles and changes in household forms resulted in a loss of identity and meaning in the traditional dwelling. This leads to the abandonment of Riads and Hanoks in favor of the apartment, and to the deterioration of said dwellings because of the lack of a global vision for a suitable maintenance and rehabilitation plan. In sum, lack of appropriation and urban density, Transformations in the family structure and Emergence of new needs and activities can create risks of rupture in the socio-cultural context that we live in. Therefore, before advancing in an optic of transformation and reuse of the traditional dwelling we must consider the evolution of cities, spatial customs, and relationship to space of each city of Fez and Seoul. At first glance, these two traditional models of dwellings are quite different for a proper comparison. Nevertheless, it would be noteworthy to examine the significance of the spatial structure in the Hanok and Riad and to see how the behavior and history of the inhabitants in South Korea and Morocco influenced the articulation of each space. This research aims to provide accessible database on the deteriorated state of the traditional dwellings studied as well as the proper guideline to correctly transform and improve them according to sustainable, cultural, and social expectations. The proposed method is at the nexus of sociological, architectural, and urban concepts. It will present an analysis of case studies of transformations carried out in traditional dwellings in Asian and Mediterranean countries. After comparing different types of transformations in both Hanoks and Riads, we concluded that the joint components: Strong hierarchy structure, sense of intimacy, spatial flexibility, should be enhanced in the new contemporized model. In addition, adaptative reuse can be a solution to achieve better habitability in the transformed dwelling, if we take into account social and cultural context, environmental, behavioral, and physical properties.
