Dual-Band Planar Antenna Design with Complementary Metamaterial Resonators for 5G Systems

摘要

This paper focuses on the design and optimization of a small-sized planar antenna, which serves as a fundamental component in 5G systems. This study presents a comprehensive plan, consisting of two distinct design stages, to achieve a new planar antenna operating within the desired microwave frequency bands. In the metamatirial model, we introduce complementary metamaterial resonators in the form of rectangular CSRRs to ensure optimal performance. The antenna’s patch, printed on an FR4_Epoxy dielectric substrate (with physical characteristics of εr = 4.4 and tgδ = 0.02). Our study focuses on evaluating key electrical properties of the designed antenna, including reflection coefficient and radiation pattern. Through simulations conducted using the High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software, we demonstrate that the proposed antenna resonates at 25.68 GHz and 39.86 GHz, with respective bandwidths of approximately 340 MHz and 2210 MHz. Additionally, the antenna exhibits a gain of 3.47 dB for 25.68 Ghz and 5.65 dB for 39.86 Ghz.
